Sporotrichosis
Presentation :
- Classically lesion develops at the site of a scratch and nodules may appear under the skin along the lymphatic channels

Pathophysiology :
- Caused by Sporothrix schenckii; a dimorphic fungus found most often in soil, plants, or plant debris.
- Infection occurs after direct contact with plants, such as roses and sphagnum moss. Direct inoculation of the organism into the skin or subcutaneous tissue manifests as fixed, “plaque-like” cutaneous sporotrichosis or as lymphocutaneous sporotrichosis.
- Extracutaneous infection (osteoarticular, pulmonary, ocular, or disseminated) can occur in patients who are immunocompromised.
Diagnostic Testing:
- Diagnosis requires culture of the organism from affected tissues
Treatment :
- Itraconazole
Prognosis:
