Type 2 Diabetes (DM2)
Presentation :
Pathophysiology :
Diagnostic Testing:
- Screening for new DM2:
- All adults age 35+
- Rescreen every 3 years if results are normal
- Abnormal result on one of three tests (if asx, must repeat test for confirmation or have 2 abnormal tests):
- Fasting glucose >= 126
- 2h Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) >= 200
- A1c >= 6.5%
- OR a single random plasma glucose >200 mg/dL WITH symptomatic hyperglycemia (e.g., polyuria, polydipsia) is diagnostic of diabetes and does not require further confirmatory testing.
Treatment :
| - The addition of Finerenone should be considered in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, persistent albuminuria despite maximally tolerated renin-angiotensin system inhibition, and normal potassium levels. |
